What do I need to do in advance?
Please download the ZOOM conference app to your device—and be sure to update the application. The conference requires the most up-to-date version of ZOOM for everything to run smoothly. If you aren’t familiar with video conferencing apps, and would like someone to walk you through the process in advance, please reply to this email and request help.
Will I have a chance to interact with other attendees?
Yes. The seminars and potpourri session will be interactive. There will also be a social time where you can connect with old friends—or make new ones. The main sessions will not be interactive.
Will I be on camera?
There will be opportunity for you to be on camera during the seminars, potpourri and social time. But it is completely optional—you can choose to “join video” (i.e., be on screen), or just participate with audio.
Are the sessions being recorded?
We plan to record the main messages and breakout seminars; social time will not be recorded. Conference attendees will only be recorded/on screen during the seminars. If you prefer not to be recorded you can notify the moderator at the beginning of the seminar, or you can choose not to actively participate until the recording has ended. Recording of the seminars will stop prior to the end of the session to allow for personal questions or sharing.
How will the recorded sessions be used/distributed?
After the conference, we will share a link with conference attendees for each session. If you didn’t get to attend all of the sessions or seminars, this means you can watch all of them on your own time. The videos will not be available on a public website, but may be shared by attendees via email.
Are there any tips to help navigate a digital (ZOOM) conference?
During potpourri and the seminars, please make sure you are on mute unless you are actively participating. It is amazing how loud small background noises can sound to everyone else! We encourage attendees to make use of the chat function, as well as the “raise hand” and reactions.
Do I have to attend every session? Can I only attend one session?
We do hope to have everyone engaged in every session. However, just like our in-person event, you can attend as many (or as few) sessions as you would like. We definitely understand that ZOOM fatigue is a real thing! And you can always watch the replay, since we will be sending you links for each session.
What is the $40 cost for?
The registration fee helps to cover the cost of technology support, as well as ministering to our conference speakers.
Will the conference be digital going forward?
We don’t know what the future holds, but of course we hope to meet at Guelph again next year—perhaps with a digital component.
